bicycles on the HOV on 59 - 2008/04/13 12:26 I was driving on a Sunday a few months ago and I saw two cyclists on the HOV lane in the center of the freeway. Is that legal on the days cars don't use it?

Re:bicycles on the HOV on 59 - 2008/04/13 14:35 I don't think so. I can't imagine why anyone would want to ride in an HOV. Most of the BikeHouston people did not do Tour de Houston this year because it ran up and down the tollway. Can't imagine anything more unscenic and not-human-scale.

Re:bicycles on the HOV on 59 - 2008/04/14 03:45 well, it certainly would be ugly and probably not the best air... but there was some novelty in the idea to me.

Re:bicycles on the HOV on 59 - 2008/04/24 04:35 A few years ago I saw a police officer talking to a lady who had been riding a bike on an HOV lane. My assumption was that he was telling her that it was an illegal activity. I guess the concern is safety in that the HOV lanes may be used on an emergency basis for government vehicles.

I did ride the HOV lane on the recent Tour de Toll Road. After riding our debris filled bike lanes and pot holed bayou trails the quality of the concrete and the smoothness of the ride was incredible. Makes you wonder why we can't have the same quality on our bike lanes.
