Bikeway Design Guidelines - 2004/10/27 13:10 TxDOT uses the TMUTCD and AASHTO's 1999 Guide for the Development of Bicycle Faciities. You can find 'em on the internet, not sure the cost of the TMUTCD, though AASHTO will cost you $45.

Bikeway Design Guidelines - 2004/10/27 15:39 I've got some design work that some roadway designers did based on TXDOT guidelines. You could land a 747 on this thing. I'm hoping that COH or Harris Co. have more economical design guidelines. Thanks for the quick reply.

Bikeway Design Guidelines - 2004/10/28 09:27 AASHTO says 8'-12' wide, you want it wider if you have very dense population and are designing for a full mix of 'traffic': peds, strollers, bicyclists and in particular, rollerbladers, who need more horizontal space for propulsion. H-GAC has ped-bike guidelines that call out these features.

Less than 8 feet don't work: riders/pedestrians swap paint/make contact low comfort level/collisions.
