Rider down on Ramble? - 2005/10/17 23:05 Does anyone have any information about the lady (Rita?) who went down on West Alabama between Sage and Post Oak? It was the most traumatic accident I've seen and I am concerned about her well being. When you are passionate about cycling, it just breaks your heart.

Re:Rider down on Ramble? - 2005/10/17 23:40 I've heard that the lady transported to the hospital from West Alabama is OK and was released from the hospital Sunday morning. Her use of a good helmet probably saved her life. Look for a detailed Ramble write-up in the next few days (once everybody has recovered from sleep deprivation!).

I'm the rider that went down on the Ramble - 2005/10/18 21:49 That was me- thanks to everyone who stopped to help, especially the nice fireman/paramedic who was also on the ride and helped me into consciousness and then the ambulance.

I rode my MTB instead of road bike to avoid the very thing that happened-getting stuck in a groove- but I must have looked away for just the wrong second! I don't really remember any of what happened, but my friends who were with me say the blood was spectacular!

The face swelling is slowly going down and the docs say it will take 8 weeks before my face "restructures itself" whatever that means. Mild concussion, impressive road rash and facial lacerations but nothing broken. So look for the horribly disfigured chick running around town on her bike (with a new helmet-the wreck cracked the old one) starting next week or as soon as the dizziness passes!

At least I know what to be for Halloween-

Re:I'm the rider that went down on the Ramble - 2005/10/19 23:44 Quasirita,

You sound like a true cyclist as you look upon your accident as a reason to upgrade your equipment with your new helmet purchase. Glad to hear you are on the mend.

Be sure and plan on attending the GHORBA/BikeHouston Christmas party at St. Arnolds Brewery in early December. You can tell your crash story and probably win the contest for the worst bike crash!
