A man riding his bicycle in northwest Harris County was killed early this morning by a suspected drunken driver who initially fled the scene of the accident.

Jerry Sullivan, 38, was riding his bike northbound in the southbound lane in the 1700 block of Snake River Road when a woman heading southbound in a white Saturn struck him head-on, Harris County sherrif's deputies said

Sullivan died at the scene. The driver drove a few blocks away to her home after the accident but returned to the scene later, deputies said.

Upon questioning, she confessed that she was the driver. She had a blood-alcohol level that was well over the legal limit, deputies said.

The driver was taken into custody and faces charges of failing to stop and render aid, they said. The accident is still under investigation.

Re:11/10/2005: Jerry Sullivan, 38-yr old - 2005/11/11 15:45 Question that come to mind...

"early this morning"... maybe pre-dawn?

Did he have lights? If no lights, and in the dark, he may not have been avoidable by even a sober person, especially when his wrong-way cycling decreased the reaction time to collision.

But, this is all speculation on my part...

Re:11/10/2005: Jerry Sullivan, 38-yr old - 2005/11/12 03:14 There are almost always multiple factors involved in a crash. We must educate cyclists so they can avoid a tragic end. But please don't imply - especially with no evidence at all - that the Mr. Sullivan brought it on, especially when the automobile driver was clearly under the influence and failed to stop. IMO that driver should have her license revoked... 10-20 years. Manslaughter charges should be considered. When there is such a clear disregard for the responsibilities incumbent on the operator of a heavy, high speed vehicle.

Re:11/10/2005: Jerry Sullivan, 38-yr old - 2005/11/18 07:51 I know the woman who was the driver. She lived with my mom off and on (they used to work together) untill I'd find out and run her off. She is bad news, drinks like a fish. Shes only 25ish, her own family won't let her stay with them. My mother just took pitty on her.

The car belonged to a friend of hers and she was going to pick this friend up and drive back to my mothers house and get dropped off. I dont know if she was drunk b-4 leaving or stopped along the way or drank at her friends house, but either way she shouldnt have been driving that car or any car. She has wrecked (minor-medium damage) my mothers truck 3 times and that was solber. Didnt have money to fix the damage nor offered to any way. She has broken numorious things around my mothers home.

She has left the back yard gate open and let my moms dog go that was never again seen. There is no bigger loser in houston than this woman. Even though Mr Sullivan was also drunk I believe it was only a matter of time b-4 this woman killed some one on the road she is now where she belongs and I hope she learned a serious lesson and maybe grows up some (alot realy).
