Expansion of FM359 - 2006/04/07 03:31
Bike advocacy needed For May 4, 2006 TxDot Public Hearing: widening of FM 359 - Richmond
TxDot will be having public meetings on the expansion of FM359, Richmond. For any of you who have ridden this road, it is a great one. Runs from 90A out past Pecan Grove, crosses over 723, and goes all the way back to FM 1093 (Westheimer).
Currently there are very wide shoulders, and lots of bikes. But...it is being expanded to 4 lanes and there are no provision for bikes at this time.
This is the information I got from TXDot:-
"The first project that we are working on calls for the widen of FM 359 from two to four lanes from US 90A to Farmer Road. This project is tentatively scheduled for a December 2007 date to begin construction. A Public Hearing will be held to receive public comments on Thursday, May 4, 2006 from 6:00 * 8:00 p.m. at Briscoe Jr. High School (4300 FM 723, Richmond, TX 77469).
The second project calls for the widening of FM 359 from Farmer Road to FM 723. This project is not as far along in the development process as the first project. We are in the process of developing design alternatives to address to address the increasing traffic demand as well as safety issues such as the FM 359/Holmes Road intersection. We expect to have a open house Public Meeting this summer for this project, but a date and location have not been determined at this time. The date to begin construction of this section of FM 359 has not been set at this time, and it could be up to 10 years from now before it begins.
Contacts for both projects are: for engineering issues, myself or Paul Bartholomew (713-802-5268), and for environmental issues, including public meetings, Lance Olenius (713-802-5271)."
Can Bike Houston organize a group to attend???
