Friday, August 11, 2006 Cyclist killed by speeding vehicle on Danover Rd. By Tara Stanley Staff Reporter, The Katy Times
A man riding a bicycle in the 600 block of Danover Road was struck and killed by a speeding car Monday evening. {August 7, 2006}
Allen Williams, Jr., 58 of Katy, was heading south when he was struck from behind by a white 1989 Chevrolet Caprice, driven by Jessie McFarland of Brookshire.
According to the 23-year-old McFarland, his view was obstructed because of a vehicle parked on the righthand side of the road
When Williams drove onto the road from in front of the parked vehicle, he was struck from behind. He was Life flighted to Hermann Hospital in downtown Houston, and pronounced dead at 8:51 p.m.
McFarland was initially charged with driving without a license and violation motor vehicular safety and responsibility. He may be more severely charged later, pending the results of alcohol and blood tests.
There is a posted 30 mile per hour speed limit on Danover road and the vehicle was estimated traveling at a minimum speed of 36 miles per hour.
Neither McFarland nor his passenger in the car were injured.
Danover is a two-lane blacktop roadway with no center stripe.
