My Moonlight Ramble crash - 2006/10/31 00:30 Thanks to all who stopped to help as I laid broken and helpless on Memorial Drive yesterday morning. I can't remember the names, but you know who you are. One of you told me that the lanes were not at the same level where they meet in that area, so when I tried to change lanes, the wheels caught on the ledge. So I changed lanes, but the bike did not. I could not see this ledge before I crashed, and I could not move afterward to verify this. Today, my doctor said my clavicle is broken in 2 places and it needs to be pinned together. Also, best wishes to Cathy, who crashed nearby, apparently for the same reason. We rode in the same ambulance, but the doctors could not tell me how she fared.
The ambulance driver said he could not take my bike with me. On the way home from the emergency room, I was driven by the accident site and my bike was not there. Does anybody know what happened to it? It is a red 1973 Gitane 10-speed, and I rode it on 26 Moonlight Rambles, including yesterday. There are 23 Moonlight Ramble stickers on it, dating from 1976 (I lost 2 before I could put them on). I tried the police, but all I got so far is 15 minutes of being on hold. I believe the crash site was about 1.2 miles east of the West Loop.

Re:My Moonlight Ramble crash - 2006/11/02 18:24 Sorry to hear about your accident. A friend brought your bike back to the George R. Brown and it was transported to Bicycle World & Fitness out on Dairy Ashford for safekeeping. All the previous Moonlight Ramble Stickers made it very distinct!

I hope you have a speedy recovery.
