Bicyclist struck, killed in northeast Harris County

A man riding a bicycle was struck by a car and killed this evening in northeast Harris County, a sheriff's official said.
The bicyclist was riding southbound on the shoulder of a feeder road in the 800 block of South Main about 5 p.m. when the driver of a Chevrolet Malibu crossed onto the shoulder and hit him, said Lt. John Martin.
The man was thrown several feet from his bike and died on the scene, Martin said. His identification is pending notification of family members, but Martin said the man appeared to be in his 40s.
The case will be referred to grand jury to determine whether any charges will be filed against the driver of the Malibu, he said.
