Re:W Bellfort Park n' Ride into Downtown - 2008/06/21 20:44 I know what you mean by the wind. It seems like it channels through the bayou at times, it's killer on the way back home sometimes. That red light is annoying but yea, San Jacinto works great for bicycle commuting. Except for the first time when I didn't pay attention to the trolly tracks and hit the pavement ha!

Actually I've been trying to figure out which bus to use if I ever need a ride. So 265 has bike racks? I need to find out if I can catch 265 in downtown or off the bayou somewhere.

Thanks for info on the bus! Maybe I'll catch ya on the bayou sometime. I wear my astros jersey religiously so I'm pretty easy to pick out. I start around 4:45-500 am.

Re:W Bellfort Park n' Ride into Downtown - 2008/06/22 21:35 The 265 P&R has side cargo compartments. The compartment for bikes is marked with a blue bike label. Grab the door, open the cargo door and toss your bike in. It takes about 15 seconds to load up. Before boarding, I ride in front of the parked bus, wave at the driver and point to my bike so that he/she knows that I will be boarding my bike. I normally get there a few minutes before the bus leaves so I don't delay the bus and normally move to the front so I can retrieve my bike before the last passenger gets off at my stop. I commute on an older yellow Schwinn Mesa MTB with commuter tires. Green back pack is on a rack as wearing the back pack adds more heat. Maybe I'll see you sometime. I normally wear an old MS 150 t-shirt.

Re:W Bellfort Park n' Ride into Downtown - 2008/06/23 16:22 Thanks again for that bus info. I got turned away once on bus 163 that went to the Missouri City PR. The driver said there was no where to put my bike.

There are plenty of places downtown to catch 265 to W Bellfort PR. Should work out nicely when I need it. This morning there was a Constabable riding right next to the trail in his car near your entrance to the Braes Bayou wspeer.

Not sure if they were looking for someone or patrolling it. Either way, glad to see the law on the trail.

Re:W Bellfort Park n' Ride into Downtown - 2008/06/25 04:46 err I'm starting to experience some verbal and physical harrasment as I make my way to/from the trail from the W Bellfort Park n Ride. I really wish the Keegans Bayou Trail was complete

I had some rocks thrown at me as well as verbal threats from what looks like gang member teens. I don't want to deal with that kind of stuff so I'm trying to secure parking right off the trail at one the Harris County parks. Heck I'm a Harris County employee, I hope they work with me.

On a better note, I ran some errands on my bike today in my local neighborhood. I stripped off the commuter gear and had the bike up to 27 mph for a mile on one of the faster roads I was on (40 mph speed limit). That may be nothing but damn it was fun and a first for me.

Ride safe everyone.

Re:W Bellfort Park n' Ride into Downtown - 2008/06/26 04:55 On June 18, 2008 in the early morning around 4:30 a.m. - 5:00 a.m., a woman was accosted on North Braeswood and Braes Bayou, on the jogging trail, near Endicott. The attacker was male. No race or age was determined. The woman used pepper spray on the man and he ran off.

That's why they were patrolling the trail around Endicott. I would image the 265 P&R to Fondren is the toughest part of your commute. I've never had any harrassment issues while commuting from my area into downtown. I probably wouldn't handle it very well.

Re:W Bellfort Park n' Ride into Downtown - 2008/06/26 14:57 That makes sense then, I passed by there by 5:15 am or so on that day. Good on that woman for repelling the attack. I see quite a few men and woman jogging different areas of the trail in the early morning. I often wonder if they are worried about possible harrasement. Not that it couldn't happen to me, well it has in the streets.

The truth is I do worry about that stuff. The past two days I have been parking at the Westwood PR right in your area wspeer. I enjoyed the long commute from Bellfort and I don't really like having to drive a bit more but not sure it's worth coming from Bellfort due to safety reasons.
