290 HOV lane - 2005/06/27 13:50
Have you noticed that the HOV lane on 290 is always empty on Sundays? I propose that the lane be opened strictly for bicycle traffic on Sundays. METRO Park & Ride lots are always empty and could easily accommodate cyclists.
Imagine riding from the West rd METRO Park & Ride lot all the way to the I-610 loop and back without a single light or intersection to interrupt your rhythm. The bridges and overpasses would only add to the workout experience.
There would be no implementation costs and safety guaranteed by the barrier walls already in place. All entrances have a lever arm to keep cars from entering, riders could simply slide underneath or wiggle through the sides of the swing arm.
There you have it, Instant bike path.
