Unrepaired grates in downtown? - 2005/08/26 22:39 Hey all,

I'm wondering if anyone's noticed the missing grate covers (essentially holes in the road) in downtown over those weird gutters that are usually in the right hand lane. IE along Fannin, St. Joseph's parkway...

I had a wreck at Clay and Fannin at night, was checking traffic behind me and saw it too late to swerve, it swallowed my entire front wheel and threw me off, emergency room and 14 stitches...

I've since found two more on St. Joseph's Parkway (one east of Fannin, one east of Caroline) that have gone unrepaired for months, and I've seen more but have to find them again.

Seems like they kind of make downtown a mine field for cyclists. They're thin enough for cars to go over but very deep and you can't ride out of it like a pothole. I've notified the city in writing (certified mail) multiple times and they go unrepaired. Has anyone else had a wreck? I'm wondering if the couriers downtown know about them etc...

I maintain photos here:

Curious if this is common knowledge or what, just found this website today, sort of new to Houston.

Thanks,
Alan
