New bike parking at I-Fest this weekend - 2006/04/27 01:23
Last weekend, my husband and I rode our bikes to a 'stros game at Minute Maid field and it was fabulous! It's easy to bike across downtown, we didn't get caught up in any of the pre- or post-game traffic, and parking was FREE. The Astros website says they have bike racks in two places. We used the racks by the east entrance to the stadium directly beneath the clock tower, because they're so convenient and in plain view of the smokers' cage and a noticeable HPD presence. (The officer I talked to said no bikes have been stolen there.) The weather was perfect and it felt great to breeze across downtown!
So... that worked so well I want to ride our bikes to the International Festival this weekend. I looked at the IFest website and all it told me a couple days ago was that you can't bring bikes inside the festival grounds. But I emailed their marketing director, and here's how they replied: You are absolutely correct about the need for encouraging everyone to ride bikes! Shame on us for not making accommodations last weekend. We've evaluated our site and have determined the best place for us to provide bike racks would be at the entrance gate located at McKinney and Smith. We will provide bicycle racks for this weekend's events as well as future Houston International Festivals. We will update our website accordingly and thanks for the reminder!
Tracy Golden Marketing Director Houston International Festival How's that for bike-friendly customer service? They've even updated their website already to tell everyone else what they told me. Go I-Fest!
