A Harris County woman who received probation earlier this month on a theft charge has been charged with intoxication manslaughter in the death of a bicyclist on the county's north side, according to court records.
Carmen Blanco-Souksanom, 39, is accused of being drunk when her Jeep struck Arnold Derrick, 30, on Wednesday afternoon.
Derrick was riding his bike northbound in the 11500 block of Veterans Memorial Drive when the accident happened, deputies reported.
He died at Memorial Hermann Hospital about four hours later, they said.
Blanco-Souksanom was ordered held without bail until a court appearance scheduled for Tuesday, according to court records.
On Aug. 19, Blanco-Souksanom was granted deferred adjudication and placed on two years' probation, records show. She was charged with theft after illegally obtaining food stamps, according to records.
Criminal defendants who successfully complete the terms of deferred adjudication avoid final conviction, but the fact that they were charged remains a part of their record.
