Recommended Montrose Route? - 2009/06/12 21:41 I've lived in Houston for about 7 years, and cycled for a little over 4. I just moved near Shepherd and Richmond, and wanted to see if anyone knew of a good route/loop around the area during the week/on the weekends. I have seen plenty of people cycling, but would like to see if anyone has a recommendation of the better/safer streets to hit. Ideally, I'd like to find something that I can do after work or early on a weekend morning and knock out a quick 25 miles or so. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Josh

Re:Recommended Montrose Route? - 2009/10/07 21:38 You could head north (~ 2 miles) up Dunlavy until you hit Allen Parkway and take it west to Memorial Park. Heading east to downtown on the weekends is also a nice ride since there's hardly anyone in the area before noon. You can ride through downtown and back to Shepherd on West Alabama.

You could also head south (~ 2 - 3 miles) and go onto the bike trail on Braes Bayou. This is a long trail that parallels MacGregor on the east end at Cullen (UH) and goes all the way to Bissonnett & Braeswood on the west end. East end of the Braes Bayou trail intersects the Columbia Tap Rail Trail that goes all the way to downtown Houston as well.

Hope that helps!

Re:Recommended Montrose Route? - 2009/10/30 22:24 If you get up early on a weekend ride Richmond to Edloe go south to westpark, west to the loop, north to memorial, do a couple loops in the park, ride out of the park north on westcott bear on to hemptstead, hang a right going east on 32nd to Jester, take a left at the bayou ride the white oak trail out and back cross over the big bridge on Jester going south, take a left on allen parkway into downtown, do some loops, head out south on bagby and head back towards shephard on west alabama
