Armstrong's triumphs putting a whole new spin on cycling

 Houston in July used to be as exciting as a flat tire. Just ask sellers of bicycles or the folks who ride them. Sweat cascaded from helmets, asphalt bubbled in the streets and sales down at the old bike emporium just sort of fell asleep to the low, lazy hum of summer flies.

That, of course, was before Austin racing star Lance Armstrong's spectacular string at the Tour de France.

BikeHouston's ears are burning as Board Member David Dick is quoted:

David Dick, long active in BikeHouston, the Houston Bicycle Club and the city's pedestrian-bicycle advisory commission, reported a similar phenomenon.

"It's really raised the awareness level of the general public and cyclists," he said. "Every place I go, people who don't bicycle at all are talking about Lance Armstrong."
