Houston’s bicycling community lost a wonderful friend today.
We’re all grateful for Howard Pool’s passionate vision and tireless work to make our area a safer and more enjoyable place for bicycling. His vision and dedication to cycling led to the creation of many Houston facilities that are currently being enjoyed by thousands of cyclists everyday. Below is just a short list that illustrates Howard’s huge impact on our community:
- Original member of Houston Bicycle Club 1964
- Brays Bayou trail advocate 1970’s (walked alignment with planners)
- Founding member of Houston Area Bicyclist Alliance 1991-2002
- Mayor’s Task Force on Bicycle Safety and Mobility 1994
- Founding member of Houston Pedestrian and Bicycle Advisory Committee 1994-present
- Founding member of Bike Houston 2002-present
A memorial service will be held for Howard at 11:00 am on Thursday, December 6, 2007 at South Main Baptist Church located at 4100 Main Street, Houston, TX.
Please keep Howard and his family in your thoughts.
