The City of Houston Bikeway Program kicks off a month-long challenge. The 2008 National Bike Month is making a move in Houston during May. This month-long event features a challenge to Houston area bikers, Bike to Work Week, May 12-16, 2008, and Mayor Bill White's Bike to Work Day on Friday, May 16, 2008 as well as many more activities throughout the month. Ride to the park, to work, to school, to shop, to the library, join a corporate team on May 16th, take your pick and let us know where you plan to ride your bike. Fill out a Bike Month Registration Form and enter to win great prizes.

National Bike Month wheels its way back to the City of Houston during the month of May.
Thursday, May 1: The City of Houston Bikeway Program will hold a ground breaking ceremony for the West Houston Phase II Bike Trail at 11:00 a.m. at Eldridge and Enclave.
The West Houston on-street bikeway offers 27.8 miles of bike lanes and designated bike routes west of Beltway 8, between Old Katy Road and Richmond. This section is a multi-use trail that extends from Enclave Parkway and Eldridge through Terry Hershey Park to Langham Creek South of I-10.
Thursday, May 15: The Energy Corridor District is sponsoring an additional Bike to Work Day on Thursday, May 15 for flex timers. For information, contact Clark Martinson at 281-759-3800 and to enroll contact Rita at 713-837-0003. Let her know you will be riding for the Energy Corridor District.

Friday, May 16: National Bike to Work Day
On Friday, May 16, 2008 at 7 a.m., Mayor Bill White is recruiting the “best of the best” media representatives to join him for the Media Ride on Bike to Work Day. This special and elite team will pedal from the Memorial Park South Picnic Loop to the steps of City Hall as part of the Corporate/Media Challenge celebrating the month of May as Bike Month.
Media representatives are being challenged to see if they have what it takes to “hang with the Mayors’ team.” This ride is associated with the citywide Corporate Challenge. This years’ goal is to register over 1,000 bike riders during the month of May. For more information, visit the Bikeway website.
