No. The streets we ride on are public streets, but the Ramble is a private event. If you ride with the Ramble without paying you are a "bandit," another word for thief. We don't like bandits because they steal from the time and effort BikeHouston volunteers gladly donate to put on the Ramble.
Hundreds of volunteer hours goes into putting on the Ramble. The fees fund the charitable work BikeHouston does to make Houston a better place for cyclists, like you, throughout the year. (See the FAQ Why is there a Fee?)
If you don't pay, you forego a cool T-shirt, map, SAG support, rest stop privileges, and that warm fuzzy feeling that comes from doing the right thing.
If you don't pay, you reduce the amount of safety education, child helmet donations, and bicycling advocacy BikeHouston can do throughout the year.
Remember: If you ride without paying and your bicycle breaks down, BikeHouston is under no obligation to pick you up in a SAG vehicle.
