On Monday, April 11th, BikeHouston board member Regina Garcia gave a one hour presentation to the teachers at Bruce Elementary about the importance of teaching all students bicycle safety. The teachers were pleased with the event and invited BikeHouston to return and interact with the students. Thanks to Olga Thompson of Insurance Associates of the Southwest for creating this opportunity.

On Friday, April 22nd, BikeHouston members Mark Blackshear (owner of Cyclone Cycles) and Dan Raine (H-GAC) teamed up with Regina Garcia to conduct a bicycle safety training event at HISD's Bruce Elementary. All 430 students were excited to learn about safely “driving” their bicycles and eagerly volunteered to participate every demonstration. Dan Raine surprised all the children by riding a 150 year old “penny-farthing” through the bicycle safety course with them. Insurance Associates of the Southwest provided helmets for 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students.
