Why should I become a BikeHouston member?

When you become a BikeHouston member, you’re providing critical support for BikeHouston’s advocacy, empowerment, and community-building work that moves Houston toward becoming a world-class bicycling city. And depending on your membership level, you’ll also receive benefits like members-only events, discounts on local rides, and invitations to special BikeHouston gatherings.

How much does a BikeHouston membership cost?

There are four membership levels, starting at just $5 per month:

Advocate — $5/month or $60/year
Champion — $12/month or $144/year
Visionary — $25/month or $300/year
Legend — $60/month or $720/year

We encourage you to choose the level that feels right for you and reflects both your ability to give and your commitment to BikeHouston’s mission.

What are the benefits of membership?

Every membership level includes:

Invitations to members-only events
Registration discounts on Houston-area rides

Higher membership levels include additional benefits:

When you join as a Champion, you’ll also get an individual membership in the League of American Bicyclists and can bring a guest to members-only events.
When you join as a Visionary, you’ll get all Champion-level benefits, plus an invitation to BikeHouston’s annual holiday party.
When you join as a Legend, you’ll receive all Visionary-level benefits plus recognition at the Soirée du Vélo and an invitation to BikeHouston’s Leadership Circle, an annual conversation with BikeHouston’s board and staff.

What is the League of American Bicyclists membership?

Champion-level members and above automatically become members of the League of American Bicyclists, a national organization on a mission to create a bicycle-friendly America for everyone. BikeHouston covers the cost of this membership as part of your BikeHouston membership.

Can I bring a guest to BikeHouston members-only events?

Champion-level members and above can bring a guest to any members-only event.

What is the Leadership Circle?

The Leadership Circle is a special opportunity for Legend-level members to connect directly with BikeHouston’s board and staff for an annual conversation about our work, our challenges, and our vision for the future.

I think I'm a member, but I’m not sure. How do I find out?

You can check in the Membership Portal. If your membership is current, it will show that you either have an active Recurring Donation of at least $5/month or your Contribution History will show a donation of at least $60 made within the last 12 months.

Can I pay monthly instead of annually?

Yes. All four membership levels are available as monthly memberships.

Monthly memberships automatically renew, so you don't have to remember to renew each year and there won't be a gap in your membership benefits. Annual memberships do not automatically renew.

How does automatic renewal work?

When you join monthly, your membership automatically renews each month using your payment method on file. You don't need to do anything to keep your membership active.

Can I change my membership level?

Yes. You can change your membership level through BikeHouston's Membership Portal. You can also update your contact information and payment method there.

Can I switch from an annual membership to a monthly membership?

Yes. You can manage your membership through the Membership Portal.

Can I cancel my membership?

Yes. If you need to cancel your recurring membership, you can manage your membership through the Membership Portal.

I’m not interested in being a member. Can I make a donation instead?

Of course! You can make a donation at bikehouston.org/donate

I currently have a recurring donation. Does that make me a member?

Yes! Supporters with monthly or annual recurring donations (aka “Bayou City Rollers”) of at least $5/month or $60/year become members automatically.

Is my membership tax-deductible?

Yes! BikeHouston is a 501(c)(3)nonprofit organization, and membership payments are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. Because membership includes benefits, the deductible portion may be less than the amount you pay. Contact us if you have additional questions about the tax deductibility of BikeHouston membership.

Do I have to live in Houston to become a member?

No! BikeHouston welcomes members from anywhere who want to support our work to make Houston a world-class bicycling city. Whether you live in Houston, the Greater Houston region, or somewhere else, your support helps make better bicycling possible in Houston.

Can my business offer a benefit to BikeHouston members?

Do I have to be a “serious cyclist” to join?

Anyone can join BikeHouston. Our members include people who ride every day, people who ride a few times each month, people who are just getting started, and people who don’t bike much, but who share our vision of a Houston where anyone can safely and easily get around by bike.

How do I access my membership information?

You can access and manage your membership through BikeHouston's Membership Portal. There, you can update your contact information, payment method, and membership level.
