take action

our ability to transform Houston into a city where anyone can safely and easily get around by bike depends on you.

We can’t do this work alone — will you lend your time, your voice, your knowledge, and your passion to achieve this vision?

SPEAK UP

Make your voice heard — whether in support or opposition of an issue — by contacting your local elected officials. The City of Houston is represented by 16 Council Members; 11 representing geographic districts (A-K) and five who serve the city at-large. Find your Council Member and their contact information here.

As a constituent, your representatives want to hear from you, and contacting them can raise your concern to the top of their agenda and help amplify the voice of others in your community.

SHIFT GEARS

Want to take your advocacy up a speed? We're recruiting Houstonians to join Gear Shifters, a corps of volunteer activists, who can represent BikeHouston at public meetings and lend a hand with advocacy efforts. Learn more.

Report

Do yourself (and your fellow riders) a favor by calling in your concerns — potholes, roadway debris, blocked bike lanes, broken traffic signals — to 311. Feedback received via 311 ensures that requests are sent to the proper team at Houston Public Works.

ride

One of the easiest ways to help create a bike-friendly community is to get on your bike and ride. Thanks to the principle of safety in numbers, the safest places to ride a bike are the places with the most people riding bikes. And when we see other people riding bikes, we’re more likely to take up cycling ourselves. Plus, when you spend time negotiating the streets in your neighborhood, you’ll gain the intimate and invaluable knowledge of where improvements are needed most.

Not sure where to start? BikeHouston leads a number of bike rides around Houston. See the Events page for more information.
